Elderly Man Drives 45 Minutes For A Date, But When He Arrives He Learns The Sad Truth

Getting older is incredibly hard. Your friends start to pass away, your family isn’t around as much anymore, and when your spouse dies it’s easy to lose hope. But it’s at that sad point that it is most important to keep living your life the way your spouse and friends would want. When 73-year-old Jim Moroney lost his wife, he never thought he would date again.

A few years after his wife passed, Jim’s friends and family began asking him about possibly dating someone new. He hadn’t really thought about it, but soon decided to sign up for Match.com.

He didn’t really think too much of it for a few days, until suddenly his phone lit up with a message. It was a beautiful woman, around his age and very interested in going on a date.

They messaged back and forth for a few days, getting to know each other and soon they set up a time to meet later that week. Jim was very nervous but excited to be back in the dating game after so many married years.

Jim pressed his shirt and pants and put on his best sweater in preparation for the date. Being a gentleman, he also picked up a dozen beautiful ruby red roses and some candies for her to enjoy

The date was 45 minutes away from his home, and the whole drive he could feel his heart beating out of his chest. Jim wanted to make the best first impression on the first date he’d been on in decades – but sadly it was not to be.

He arrived at their designated date spot but the woman was nowhere to be found. Jim waited almost an hour, but she never showed up or returned any more of his messages.

Jim went to visit his granddaughter Gabby after the ordeal, and he was upset about the experience. After telling her how he was stood up, she took to Twitter to express her outrage.

“My grandpa got all dressed up for his date, drove 45 minutes away, bought her chocolate and flowers and he got stood up,” she tweeted.

She added a few pictures to the post and put down her phone for a moment. Not long after, she noticed the retweets and responses streaming in from people all across Twitter that shared in her outrage.

Everyone shared their sympathies with Jim, making sure to let him know about all the other wonderful women out there looking for a guy just like him. He made sure to let them know that he isn’t giving up any time soon just because of one little setback.

“You know what, this is the way the dating scene is,” Jim told Buzzfeed. “I hope that I find someone truthful, loving and that has compassion. I’m looking for that special woman. It was just something that happens, and not just to me, but other people. I will kick myself in the ass and get going again.”

We could all learn a lesson in perseverance from Jim Moroney, don’t you agree?
